Light Twin Piston charter aircraft - Further Information
Light twin engine piston charter aircraft are the most common general aviation charter aircraft in Australia. Many charter clients prefer twin engined aircraft as they will usually give the ability to fly to an alternate airport in the unlikely event of an engine failure.
The other main advantage over cheaper single-engined aircraft is that charter flights can be conducted both at night or in poor weather conditions. This helps to reduce inconvenience of cancelled or delayed flights due to weather or insufficient daylight.
Unless specifically requested, Altitude Aviation will normally quote a twin-engined aircraft as the minimum standard for air charter to provide a higher level of safety, and also minimise the disruptions to schedule often associated with single-engined charter flights. The exception to this are single-engined turboprop aircraft, such as the Pilatus PC12 corporate turboprop, which offer superior safety and the same operational capabilites as twin-engined aircraft.
Light twin engined piston aircraft are normally quite limited in performance, so there may be restrictions on passengers numbers/weights able to be carried on charter flights, and some weather conditions may be unsuitable for these aircraft. If superior performance, safety systems and comfort are required, Altitude Aviation recommends the use of corporate turboprop charter aircraft if the budget allows.
